Mas Côté Cour

The house Clos de l’Hôpital was first build in the 17th century, when the land and the grape wines were cultivated. The Sainte-Marthe Hospital from Avignon bought the land in 1727 and delegated the maintenance to a local farmer from Maubec. In 1746, the farm was restored ; the inner courtyard was expended so the well would be integrated in the house and the dependences. To this day, the well remains in the courtyard. The main house has been a rest home for the nuns working ate the hospital, until they settled more permanently in Cabrières d’Avignon.

Throughout the years, the owners of the house have changed. At the beginning of the 20th century, Mr Rey, ingenior, took over the land and started producing great wines. The Clos de l’Hôpital, was at the time, the only winery of this part of the Luberon region and produced among the best and most distinguished wines of the Vaucluse.
Today, the vines are no longer there, but we still enjoy the local products of the surrounding farmers.
